Learning with Mrs. Larson

This year has been a busy and exciting place to be in Mrs. Larson’s sixth grade social studies class. They started the new year with an Ancient Greece unit where students explored all kinds of topics that the Greeks gave us today including our government, and even more fun for the students was the Original Ancient Olympics. Students were able to compare the original Olympics to those of today.

More recently they have been working on an Ancient Rome unit where students have participated in an array of activities including Roman plays where students reenacted a story at the Colosseum’s Gladiator Games.

“Students love to put on the gladiator gear,” Mrs. Larson said.

Students also researched the advantages and disadvantages to different types of governments and performed a debate.

“Students are getting very good at their arguing skills and how to articulate their feelings towards historical and current topics. They are also getting very good at researching and using reliable sources. As we move into quarter four, we will be finishing up Rome, continuing to work on our geography skills, and beginning our Passion Projects for our Inquiry unit,” said Mrs. Larson.
