It was a medal winning day for the Coaler Speech Team who ended the always competitive Waubonsie Valley “The Reel Thing” Tournament in first place with 477 points.
Madison Wilson led the Coalers with a first place finish in radio speaking. She also earned a third place medal in dramatic interpretation.
Also claiming medals at the Jan. 11 tournament were: Melody Kinder, second place, original oratory, and fourth place in poetry; Corinna Barkley, second place, special occasion speaking; Gio Bruno and Mayson Wantroba, second, dramatic duet acting; Jaiden Leman, second, extemporaneous speaking; Jacob Cimino, second, impromptu; Jordan Olson, third, prose; Grey Vanek, third, humorous interpretation; Caroline Childers, third, prose and sixth, poetry; Deborah Lynch, fourth, informative speaking and oratorical declamation, and Juliet Covington, fourth, original comedy. Advancing to and competing in the finals were: Jordan Olson and Olivia Sage, dramatic duet acting; Lilliana Aguirre, humorous interpretation, and Liam Seeley, informative speaking.
The Coalers will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 15 as they host the Illinois Central Eight Conference Tournament. First round action is set to get underway at 5 p.m.
