Fifth and sixth grade bands present winter concerts

2024 Winter Concert—"Sleigh Ride"

The winter concert season is well underway and the fifth grade Beginning Band and sixth grade Cadet Band took the stage Thursday evening to showcase what they have been learning and the notes they have been perfecting.

The Dec. 5 concert began with the fifth graders who started playing their instruments in September. The instrumentalists presented six numbers including “Hot Bundt Cakes,” “Beethoven’s Joy,” and a holiday favorite, “Jingle Bells.”

Members of the Cadet Band took the stage to present three holiday songs that included “ Christmas in the Kitchen,” a number that featured instrumentalists playing water glasses and cooking pots. The concert concluded with a Cadet Band favorite, “Sleigh Ride.”

Coal City’s Beginning and Cadet Bands are directed by Andrew Brimm.

Coming up next is the high school choral concert on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and the annual Coal City High School Madrigal performances will take place Friday, Dec. 13-Sunday, Dec. 15. The middle school band will present its concert on Dec. 17 and the holiday concerts conclude with the middle school choirs on Dec. 19.
