Coal City Middle School focuses on a new character trait each month and students from all three grade levels are recognized for displaying that trait. The students are nominated by their grade level and Encore teachers, however in the month of November the students were given the opportunity to nominate their peers who they believe display the qualities of being a good friend.
Friendship was the character trait the school worked on from mid-October until the end of November. Six students were recognized during an assembly on Tuesday, Nov. 26 for being a good friend. Teachers from each grade level introduced the students and shared comments on the characteristics their peers said makes them a good friend.
Students selected by their peers were:
Sixth grade—Ryleigh Kargle and Kam Gabehart
Seventh grade—Mel Leman and Tristan Brncich
Eighth grade—Olivia Ferrari and Jonah Micetich
Encore—Jazmin Robles-Serna and Gavin Gibson
Each of the honored students received a certificate and gift card
