Fiction Detectives

For the last few weeks, students in Mrs. Himes’ seventh grade English/language arts class have been working on multiple elements of fiction. Some of those elements include identifying characters using direct and indirect characterization, identifying and labeling types of character conflicts, determining the theme of reading selections, and identifying and labeling parts of the plot. To practice these skills, students completed task cards in multiple stations while having the opportunity to discuss elements of fiction with their peers. As a culminating activity, students were challenged to an “Escape Room” by identifying these elements, cracking a code using a cipher, and escaping the challenge.
