Students in Ms. George’s class at Coal City High School worked together to master their following direction and teamwork skills while assembling a multi-ingredient snack. The recipe was to make healthy blueberry banana bites, an extension activity from their weekly news article.
Students Luke and Zach decided to make it a friendly competition of who’s
team could follow the recipe most accurately and efficiently. To their surprise
Hanna and Bella beat the boy’s team by only minutes! After the dough chilled, all
students helped roll the dough into bite sized pieces.
Part of the cooking day requirement is for all students to try the finished
product. This serves two purposes: students are exposed to a variety of foods they
may have never tried before and critique their own cooking skills!
Overall, the students had a blast assembling the ingredients and rolling the
dough into bite size pieces. However, the recipe review indicated that overall the
students were not fans of the taste despite following the recipe without any
errors. The teacher's review was the opposite! Ms. Caher, Ms. Sarah, Ms.
Angelica, and Ms. George all agreed the recipe tasted yummy for only including
healthy ingredients!
