Coal City eighth graders have been exploring the causes of rebellion in the 13 colonies against British rule. Would the colonists have rebelled if Parliament never taxed the colonists? Some students believe war was inevitable. They have even spent the time analyzing the advantages and strategies of both the Continental and British armies and deciding who has the best set of advantages heading into war. The fight for independence is next on the agenda with “The Shot Heard ‘Round the World” and the final battle of Yorktown in the near future.
