Fishing for a championship

Layne Cuddy and Buddy Widlowski have once again qualified for the Illinois High School Association [IHSA] Bass Fishing State Finals. It’s the fishing duo’s third time qualifying for the state finals as teammates.

The pair have finished third in the sectional the past three years and this year it was with a total catch of 10 lb. 8 oz. from nearby Heidecke Lake.  The two have found success on the water finishing last year’s state tournament in the top 15.

Cuddy and Widlowski will be recognized by high school students and staff on Wednesday, May 15 prior to their departure to Carlyle Lake in Southern Illinois for the State Tournament that gets underway on Friday, May 17.

The Coalers have had a boat in the water at the state tournament for the past four years and this marks Widlowski’s fourth trip to the IHSA tournament.
