Board of Education Meeting Briefs—May 2024

  • Finalized the end of the school year calendar setting Tuesday, May 28 as the last day of student attendance and Wednesday, May 29 as a teacher institute day.  The final day of student attendance will be an early dismissal day with students at the early childhood center dismissed at 1:15 p.m.; elementary school at 1:35 p.m.; intermediate school at 1:25 p.m.; middle school at 1:45 p.m., and high school at 1:40p.m.
  • A 36 month agreement was entered into with Health-e Pro for a comprehensive menu planning solution for the district’s food service program.
  • Approved a one year agreement with Level Data Managed Services to help identify data errors within PowerSchool.
  • Image Group Photography of Bourbonnais was approved for photography and yearbook services for the 2024-2025 school year. 
  • A renewal agreement with Sprout Educational Services was approved for physical therapy services. 
  • Following a presentation at the Board Study Session in April, the co-curricular and extra curricular evaluation form was approved.
  • Approval was given to the district’s Communications Plan.
  • Updated Building Usage Guidelines and Fees were adopted. 
  • The 2024 Consolidated Grant Plan was  approved.
  • Approved payment to Lite Construction in the amount of $76,244 for repairs at Coal City Middle School resulting from a burst pipe in January.
  • A 48 month lease agreement was approved with Trafera for Chromebooks.
  • Approved the final draft of revised district policies.
  • An overnight trip to Iowa during the 2024-2025 season was approved for the high school wrestling team. 
  • Superintendent Chris Spencer provided the Board with an update on staff openings for the coming school year and facility improvements.
  • Rebecca Pendergast was announced as the new assistant principal at the Early Childhood Center effective with the 2024-2025 school year. 
  • Employed for the 2024-2025 school year were Emily VanDerGrift, part time social studies teacher at the high school; McKenna Wankowski, seventh/eighth grade math teacher at the middle school, and Lisa Johnson, assistant secretary/health aide at the intermediate school. 
  • Lorena Solecki was employed as a one-on-one aide at the elementary school. 
  • The employee transfer of Lauren Schoonover from full-time classroom aide at the Early Childhood Center to kindergarten teacher was approved. This is a one year position.
  • Approved the resignation of high school science teacher and science department leader Kaitlyn Czernicki effective June 30. 
  • Extended employment contracts to certified staff who completed their first, second and third year, and offered tenure to those completing their fourth year with excellent evaluations each year. 
  • Accepted the extra-curricular resignation of Tommy Fatigante and middle school math team sponsor. 
  • Approved extra-curricular assignments for Brittany LeFevre, freshman girls basketball coach; Jim Looper, science department leader; Brock Riggi, freshman boys basketball coach; Sarah Veronda, student services department leader, and Stephanie Vucsko, student council sponsor and Link Leader sponsor.
  • District enrollment at the end of April was 2,155 students.
