Science lessons

To end the school year, Mrs. Piatak’s eighth grade students are learning about human biology.  They are focusing on how the different systems work together to maintain homeostasis and keep our bodies functioning well.  In the pictures you can see students dissecting a chicken wing and comparing it to the human arm.  Students manipulated the skeletal muscles to see how they affect movement.  They also identified tendons and ligaments and examined how they affect the movement and stability of a hinge joint.  In the other pictures, students are burning different types of food to determine how many calories the food contains.
