Senior basketball players honored

 

 

The Coal City High School Athletic Department recognized senior basketball players—Gavin Carpenter, Aiden Christopher, Chase Dehler, Jim Feeney, Owen Hren, Danny Olson and Colten Sztapka  during  Senior Night activities on Feb. 9. 

 

In a message to his players, Coach Joe Micetich said, “though not all of you have been a part of the program for all four years, the energy and freshness you have brought to the varsity team have been an instrumental part of who we are.” He added, “you should be proud of the progress that you have made, and the foundation you have laid for future Coaler basketball players.”

 

Gavin Carpenter, the son of Joel and Krystle Carpenter, was recognized for his contributions to the Coaler basketball team on Senior Night. Gavin has been a part of the program for three years and has also played football for the Coalers. He is undecided about his plans after high school.

 

Aiden Christopher was accompanied on Senior Night by his parents Mark and Erin Christopher. Aiden also played football for the Coalers during his time at Coal City High School. He is currently undecided about his plans after graduation. 

 

Chase Dehler was joined by his parents Jeff and Charissa Dehler on Senior Night. This year was his first on the basketball court for the Coalers. He previously was a part of the wrestling team and has also played football and is on the bass fishing team. Following graduation he plans to have a career as a paramedic and firefighter. 

 

Jim Feeney, the son of Kevin and Peggy Feeney, was honored on Senior Night for his four years of contributions to the basketball team. Jim has been a part of the football team and will play baseball in the spring. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and Coalers with Character. His future plans are to attend a four year university majoring in finance and actuarial science and continue playing football. 

 

Owen Hren, a four year member of the basketball team, was accompanied by his parents John Hren and JIll Hren on Senior Night. Following graduation he plans to attend lineman school in Georgia to become a lineman for ComEd. 

 

Danny Olson, the son of John and Kelly Olson, was honored on Senior Night for his four years of participation on the basketball team. Danny will finish out his senior year playing baseball for the Coalers. He is currently undecided on his plans for the future. 

 

Colten Sztapka was accompanied on Senior Night by his parents Stan and Lisa Sztapka.  He is a four year member of the basketball team and has also played football and runs track for the Coalers. Colten’s future plans are to pursue a career in aviation.
