Happy Birthday, Mrs. DeGulie

Mrs. Lucille DeGulie has had an impact on decades of Coalers. For more than 30 years she taught English at Coal City High School and her students still talk about the lessons they learned from her and the influence she has had on their life.

On April 15, Mrs. DeGulie observed her 100th Birthday. It was an occasion that was celebrated by family, friends and students, and marked by a Proclamation by the Coal City Village Board.

Earlier this week, Coal City High School had an opportunity to celebrate this milestone and thank her for the many contributions she has made and continues to make to the school district. Among those celebrating with her was Dan Hutchings, the district’s athletic director, who was fortunate to be one of her students. Also taking part were current high school students Jim and Bridget Feeney, who are family friends.

The afternoon was marked with many memories of former students, the history of the high school, fellow educators and lots of smiles.

The Coal City Community Unit School District wishes Mrs. DeGuile a very Happy Birthday and offers its greatest appreciation for her continued dedication to the community and the Coalers.
